Both In-Person and Distant Learning Options

Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, May15th on the Duluth Community Education website.

The Duluth Public Schools Driver Education Program will be offering both an in-person class and distance learning class this Summer semester. The distance learning class will require Google Meet software and students must have an ISD 709 email account. The in-person class will meet at Duluth East. All classes will do behind the wheel lessons out of Denfeld or East High Schools.

Program Information: Students must be at least 15 years of age by the last scheduled classroom session. Program consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel instruction. Class attendance is mandatory (if the student does not complete a full 30 hours of classroom instruction they will not be able to take the permit test). 

Online Class: Computer with camera, microphone, and ISD 709 email account is required for the online class only. Students must log in with student isd709 account, attendance is monitored using the student account. Use of Google Classroom is used to hand in required work, some of these functions do not work with a mobile phone so a desktop or laptop is needed. Students will use other programs including Quizlet and Kahoot as part of the course curriculum. In order to complete the course and be eligible to take the knowledge test, students must be logged in each day for the entire 3 hour class , submit the required work via Google classroom and actively participate with mic and camera. 

Registration: Online registration will begin on Monday, May 15th at 8:00 a.m. on the Duluth Community Education website: Classes usually fill up very quickly. You should go to the website before the registration date to create your account or check your current account. Fees: The cost of the full program (classroom and behind the wheel) is $400 and must be paid when registering using Visa, MasterCard or Discover. When registering please use the student’s full legal name and include the student’s date of birth.
