Driver EducationDriver Education Duluth Public Schools Winter/Spring 2023 Both In-Person and Distant Learning Options - Behind the Wheel Included - Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13th on the Duluth Community Education website. The Duluth Public Schools Driver Education Program will be offering both an in-person class and distance learning class this Winter/Spring semester. The distance learning class will require Google Meet software and students must have an ISD 709 email account. The in-person class will meet at Duluth East. All classes will do behind the wheel lessons out of Denfeld or East High Schools. Class #3719 Online Class Using Google Meet 4:20 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. Dates: January 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 February 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 *ISD 709 email address required Class #3720 East High School, Room 2021 3:35 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. Dates: April 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27 May 1, 2, 3, 4 Program Information: Students must be at least 15 years of age by the last scheduled classroom session. Program consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel instruction. Class attendance is mandatory (if the student does not complete a full 30 hours of classroom instruction they will not be able to take the permit test). Computer with camera, microphone, and ISD 709 email account is required for the online class only. Students in the online class must participate with mic, as they are called on frequently to assure active participation Registration: Online registration will begin on Friday, January 13th at 8:00 a.m. on the Duluth Community Education website: www.duluthcommunityed.org. Classes usually fill up very quickly. You should go to the website before the registration date to create your account or check your current account. Fees: The cost of the full program (classroom and behind the wheel) is $400 and must be paid when registering using Visa, MasterCard or Discover. Early Childhood Family EducationEarly Childhood Family Education (ECFE) recognizes that parents are their child’s first and most important teachers. ECFE offers parents hands-on learning experiences and parenting discussions that will nourish a lifetime of teachable moments. ALL families are welcome. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes meet once a week. We offer classes at various times and at 4 different locations across Duluth. Together, parents and children, participate in activities and experiences that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language skills. All ECFE classes are taught by licensed early childhood teachers and parent educators to provide the quality education parents are looking for. ECFE teachers use the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework and Early Childhood Indicators of Progress: Minnesota’s Early Learning Standards provided through the Minnesota Department of Education.Category

K.E.Y. ZoneK.E.Y. Zone Program K.E.Y. Zone is a collaborative program of the Duluth YMCA and the Duluth Public Schools. The program provides a safe and supervised environment for youth to receive educational support and participate in enrichment activities. Program goals include fostering enrichment and learning, development of life skills, promoting regular attendance in school, and providing year-round opportunities, including summer and break days. The program is located at all nine ISD 709 Elementary Schools and is for youth in grades K-5. Summer Program K.E.Y. Zone 2023 Summer Program: Registration opens March 6, 2023 at 7:00 a.m. Site: To be Determined Time: 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Dates: June 20 - August 25 (closed July 3 and July 4) School Year Program K.E.Y. Zone 2023-24 School Year Program: Registration opens April 3, 2023 at 7:00 a.m. Sites: All nine ISD 709 elementary schools Afterschool Time: 2:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Break Days: Open at select sites and days from 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. **There will be a limited number of spots available for K.E.Y. Zone summer and school year programming. Registration will be on a first come first serve basis. There will be a waitlist for full sites and more spots will open as staffing is available. Please understand this is for the safety of our youth. No exceptions will be made at this time.** Waiting List Information: Families can be placed on a waiting list by calling K.E.Y. Zone at 218-336-8900 x2 or emailing mark.connor@isd709.org. Once the program has secured more space and staff, the program will enroll families from the waiting list. K.E.Y. Zone is certified by the state to provide a safe care environment with guidelines for safety including staff to student ratios. Program Rates: Options Description Rate Effective 1/1/23 Monthly Option A Full: (5 days/week) $203.00/month/child Monthly Option B Flex: (12 days/month) $145.00/month/child Daily Rate Break Days & Summer $45.00/day/child Payment Information: A $35.00 per child registration fee is due annually and is non-refundable. Once registered for the program, you can schedule attendance and/or manage your account online. Invoices are distributed electronically by the Duluth Community Education offices on the 25th of each month with payment due the 1st of each month. Outstanding balances are subject to late fees and will impact eligibility to participate in the program. Families pay their balance through scheduled monthly autopayment by credit card. That’s why we offer multiple resources to help families pay for child care expenses. To qualify for financial assistance, you must be currently enrolled or in the process of enrolling at one of our Out of School Time (OST) programs. Financial assistance is designed to help cover expenses based on your family size and gross income per your household. A registration fee is required at the time of enrollment. It is possible for families to qualify for both St. Louis County and YMCA financial assistance programs. Families must apply for state child care assistance before applying for YMCA Financial Assistance. Please see the information below on both St. Louis Child Care Assistance and YMCA Financial Assistance. To apply for YMCA Child Care Financial Assistance, please follow the steps below: 1.Apply for child care assistance in the county in which you reside. 2.When you receive your determination letter (whether accepted or denied), you must submit the paperwork with your OST Financial Assistance application. 3.You must submit all information listed on the application to be considered. Processing takes a minimum of two weeks. If funds are not available at the time of submission, you will be placed on a waiting list. If you leave the program, you will be removed from the waiting list and may re-apply should you want to enroll at a later date.
